Francis R. Hodgson



Mr. Hodgson is a former Ocean County Assistant Prosecutor, where he served primarily as a trial lawyer in the Litigation Section and Special Operations Group. During his tenure, Mr. Hodgson handled all aspects of criminal litigation, including pre-indictment investigations, motions practice, and ultimately as the prosecuting attorney representing the State of New Jersey in both jury and bench trials.

While in the Litigation Section, Mr. Hodgson prosecuted both violent and non-violent crimes, including robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of firearms/weapons, theft, fraud, and the possession and distribution of narcotics.

As a trial attorney assigned to the Special Operations Group, Mr. Hodgson was honored to work closely with the investigating detectives of this premier investigative police unit. He was assigned the prosecution of narcotics and weapons offenses, including First Degree - Strict Liability Drug Induced Death and 2nd Degree - Manslaughter. Mr. Hodgson’s duties also included the review of search warrant applications, the approval of charging decisions concerning crimes of the First and Second degree, and the handling of all aspects of litigation - from indictment through trial.
After obtaining his undergraduate degree from New York University, Mr. Hodgson earned his Juris Doctor from The University of North Carolina School of Law. He then served as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable James Den Uyl, Judge of the Superior Court, Civil Division. He is active in the Ocean County Bar Association, has previously served as the Young Lawyer Liaison, and was a recipient of the Ocean County Bar’s Young Lawyer Award.
